SAF members Don Donnelly, Heather Gracie-Petty, and Bill Brash managed the NJDSAF booth at the first day of the 2014 Wild Expo on September 13, 2014. The NJDSAF Booth was in a prime spot along Forestry Row close by the entrance of the EXPO. Thus, over 8,000 visitors passed by the booth at Colliers Mill Wildlife Management Area in Jackson Township in Ocean County. If you haven’t been to this annual event, you have missed an opportunity for you, your friends, and your family to celebrate the state’s bountiful natural resources and rich outdoor heritage.

The Expo is an annual 2-day event, is free of charge, and takes place rain or shine. It is hosted by the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife, Division of Parks and Forestry, the State Forestry Services and the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey. The event also has several sponsors, and exhibitors and vendors from the field of outdoor recreation who are on site. Mark next year’s calendar now and plan on helping at the booth for a 4-hour shift next year on Saturday or Sunday September 12 or 13, 2015. The SAF exhibit is easy to setup, the canopy was set up for NJDSAF with a table and two chairs. There are many other exhibits to see, things especially for kids to experience from archery, fishing, camping skills, rock climbing, wildlife watching, shooting sports, geo-caching and plenty more. Many of the free activities and programs offered can also help to fulfill Boy Scout and Girl Scout badge requirements. Most importantly, it is a chance for NJDSAF and you to tell what forestry is all about to members of very large audience.
